    I have postfix working with Thunderbird 1.5 so it can work.

    I was using 2.1.5 on Debian and found that it's not a good version.

    I upgraded to 2.2.8-7 (which is a "sane" version) from unstable and things got
    much better for my particular problem. YMMV.
