    There seems to be a misconception that Postfix always uses SMTP
    for address verification.

    Instead, Postfix uses the exact same delivery agents as it would
    use for normail email delivery. Among others, it uses the exact
    same SMTP client, the exact same local delivery agent, and the
    exact same pipe or virtual delivery agents.

    Thus, you get the exact same MX processing as with regular mail,
    the exact same alias expansion, and so on.
