    failures, filesystem corrupsion, fire ++. Mirroring ONLY protects you
    against hardware failures on the disk. Mirroring is NOT a replacement
    for backup.

    If using FreeBSD I think dump(8) should be fast.

    If placed on a seperate partition maybe you can even use dd and create
    images instead (then you don't need to create large lists of files).
    Considering the safetey of Maildir, having messages stored in seperate
    files, this should be safe enough?
