Hi again,
As a result of my idiocy in not being able to figure out what
had gone on with my postfix server on OSX 10.4 (then updated to
10.4.1), I went to do some research as to why & how my previously
happy & stable Postfix install on OSX 10.3.9 had begun to have
problems after the upgrade to OSX 10.4 & later.
Some Postfix users will already know this, but Apple in their
'wisdom' have changed the way that Postfix starts, using the launchd
daemon. It now has a start item in a different place, which is here:
/System/Library/LaunchDaemons/org.postfix.master.plist
Just why Apple decided to do this is beyond me. I inserted a
traditional startup item & added the MAILSERVER=-YES- line to
/etc/hostconfig under my existing config. To be on the safe side, I
also moved that org.postfix.master.plist out of the directory to
another location so nothing was unexpectedly started.
Here's a couple of links to people who have had this problem.

While it might be a repeated effort for some people,
hopefully this will sit as something useful in the archives.
