Since you don't provide any config info or log entries, I'm sort of
guessing here, but it sounds as if you are running postfix with the
chroot flag enabled in master.cf, and the chroot jail isn't populated
with everything it needs to do DNS lookups.

To diagnose DNS problems, be sure to run tests as the postfix user,
and if you run postfix chrooted you will need to chroot to the postfix
spooldir first.

If you have another working system, the obvious answer is find what's
different about the postfix config on the working system.

If this doesn't help, come back with details about your configuration
and log entries of what's happening.
