Some of you prefer to sort your mail before you read it and then read it
from the folders. This seems to be the preferred method of Outlook.
Some of you, myself included, prefer to read incoming mail in the inbox,
then sort what wasn't discarded into folders for archival purposes. My
preference is based on the fact that I have over 400 folders and it
would be nearly impossible to chase down my new mail by looking over the
folder list to find those with new mail. The majority of the mailing
lists I subscribe to include a tag in the subject line to make quick
visual scanning the incoming main in the inbox easier. For me, the
issue isn't being able to sort on the subject lines, it's being able to
look at them easily at a glance. (Most of my sorting is done on
information other than subject anyway).
All of this could be made easy for both groups if a mailing list manager
which allows this to be set in individual preferences were developed.
