Hi all,
I've been having a problem with backscatter on my postfix mail server,
my incoming smtp connections set in master.cf is 500, but this does not seem to be enough as i'm still getting time out errors when trying to connect to postfix to send mail. I have the cpu/ethernet/memory/open file handles all graphed using rrdtool, and so I can see that I have some resources to spare.
What I need is a way to count the number of open, free, and waiting smtp connections so I can graph it and hence see how far I can/need push my hardware.
My inital thought was to use `netstat -nta` and some kind of script to process the output. I don't really know how to write the script though. Does anyone have a similar script? Or another idea for counting connections?
Any pointers in the right direction would be most appreciated.
Thanks
Austen
