Did you try
telnet mail37.messagelabs.com 25
and
telnet mail28.messagelabs.com 25
?

Dunno. Do you have DNS problems?
Here:

# host -t mx za.bp.com
za.bp.com mail is handled by 10 mail37.messagelabs.com.
za.bp.com mail is handled by 20 mail28.messagelabs.com.
