The smtpd service uses only the recipient portion of the mailer triple
and the flag indicating wether the address contained source routes. The
trivial-rewrite "resolve" interface serves this function, and also returns
the associated transport and nexthop (which are not used by "smtpd").

The trivial-rewrite service also provides a "rewrite" interfaces which
does not perform transport table lookups, but this does not keep track of
source route information.

Yes, the transport table lookups could in principle have been avoided, but
this service granularity is not available in trivial-rewrite at this time.
