i should have been more specific with my answer to your initial question.
technically speaking, the problem is that postfix is advertising a
function that will never be succesfully executed (due to
smtpd_etrn_restrictions = reject).
example: a customer goes into a store that is advertising in the window
"foo available here, for valid customers". the customer then asks an
employee "hi - where can i find the foo?". the employee responds "we do
not carry foo here." the customer then says "but it says in the window
that you have foo, for valid customers. how do i become a valid
customer?" the employee responds "it's not possible to become a valid
customer. i know it says in the window that we carry foo. however we do
not carry or stock foo here because there are no valid customers." the
problem, simply put, is that it doesn't make sense.
in a situation where smtpd_etrn_restrictions = reject is not the case, it
could prove helpful from a troubleshooting standpoint to be able to modify
a simple yes/no parameter to turn etrn on or off rather than having to
modify a potentially multiline smtpd_etrn_restrictions parameter.
that being said, i'll leave well enough alone.
