This seems to be ther problem here. I just tried WITHOUT djbdns -- no
change.

I see that the code does the right thing - usually. But this ONE
specific example doesn't work.

Postfix never queries
"i.am.dsn.rfc-ignorant.null.dk.dsn.rfc-ignorant.org"

I does however query things like:
query 571337 7f000001:a9d6:fdd8 1 aol.com.dsn.rfc-ignorant.org.
cached nxdomain aol.com.dsn.rfc-ignorant.org.
query 571338 7f000001:a9d6:fdd9 1 aol.com.postmaster.rfc-ignorant.org.
cached 1 aol.com.postmaster.rfc-ignorant.org.

or

query 571600 7f000001:a9df:de9e 1
lists.sourceforge.net.abuse.rfc-ignorant.org.
cached nxdomain lists.sourceforge.net.abuse.rfc-ignorant.org.
query 571601 7f000001:a9df:de9f 1
sourceforge.net.abuse.rfc-ignorant.org.
cached nxdomain sourceforge.net.abuse.rfc-ignorant.org.

- thus exhibiting the correct behaviour.

Is there maybe an error that makes subdomains with names of length 1
not work correctly?

Windows is the answer, but only if the question was 'what is the
intellectual equivalent of being a galley slave?'
