Garbage in, garbage out? Check if the sendmail system already has this
stuff in it's logs.

If nothing shows up in the logs, maybe it's some sort of filter
(Virusscanner?) on one of the sytems.

Also try tcpdump to see if the garbage comes in via the wire or is
added later on.
