I've come to the position that you should not be a mail admin if you run
your mailbox server as MX host. :))

I've been running IMGate (my sig) for nearly two years now. and several
100 other orgs have adopted it. I have nothing but extremely positive
reports.
90% reduction in abuse,
reduction in mail infections(with out,
isolating the mailbox server from DoS'es,
increase in mailbox server zippiness due to offloading of:
SMTP dialog with internet MTA's
DNS lookups
mail re-deliveries/queueing
bounce processing
