The idea of hashing the queue came up with the bad performance of ext2 when
there are MANY MANY files in one directory.

I'd say there shouln't be more than 5.000 files in each directory.
I think Postfix uses [0-9A-Z]

130.000 = 36^x * 5.000
     26 = 36^x
      x ~= 1

With just 1.000 files per directory it would be maybe 2.
