I don't think that is the problem, we have an alias that sends postmaster related email to /dev/null
and I can that it is working.

Your system isn't able to deliver the mail to the postmaster account.
You should consider using a catch-all entry (i.e. in the virtusertable)
to reject mail to non existing accounts and not accepting them and then
getting them to your postmaster.
