I'm not sure I totally understand your problem, so I can't answer it.
One thing that might be confusing is that it is desireable to build the
binaries against a static libsasl (to reduce the memory taken by jump
tables, which is per-process and can be quite a bit for SASL), but still
have the perl modules available (which require a shared libsasl).
