Apart from having a central, consistent user database, it is very beneficial
to have a remote administratable service running. For flat files such as
sasdb you have to write your own remote admin tool - for LDAP there are al-
ready many admin tools available.
Third reason: creating online backups (i.e. replicas) and subsequent high
availability for your user database is very easy.
