Subject: SMTP AUTH with saslauthd and encrypted password?

This is probably more a sendmail question, but perhaps not.
I want sendmail with SMTP AUTH and saslauthd and encrypted passwords. What's
the best way to do this? Do I need TLS? Can I just encrypt the password and
not the whole stream? As usual, very confused. Thanks. - Mark
