That's weird because I do run -R many times.
How can you know if searchd crashed (remotely using telnet); is there any log information or you simply know because you runned searchd -R last time ?
I can't install aspseek 1.2.8 (because there are too many compilation problems) no my FreeBSD 5 or the cvs version (because my web hoster didn't installed aclocal and automake). That's why I asked if was possible to use aclocal and automake on the same directory of aspseek - cvs to run ./cvsprep
I think I will have to wait for the next version of aspseek!
Do you have any other idea ?
Regards,
Delsio Caba

no no,
that wouldn't make any sense.
normally you start searchd with
searchd -D -R
option -D means start as daemon (in background), -R means restart if searchd stopss..
normally searchd should run in background as service so it waits to answer requests
from s.cgi.
in case that you get the error message, try to look whether searchd is running
ps -ef |grep searchd
if not, that's the problem. maybe update to the latest aspseek version.
as i said in an older version (not sure anymore which it was), searchd crashed
on my box very often...

You mean I have to check searchd every time a visitor wants to search something?

to2) you have to check whether searchd is running. if not you'll receive that error message.
in an older version of aspseek (not sure whether it was solved in 1.2.7) searchd
crashed often on my suse-linux box.

Hi there!
1. Is there any way to install Aspseek 1.2.8 (cvs version) without aclocal or
with aclocal installed in my own directory --> (./aclocal)
2. I'm having problems using aspseek 1.2.7 many times (I don't know why) when I try to search it returns Cannot connect so search daemon. Is that because the web server was restarted?
